40 Foot Long Ancient Kauri Board is Ready to Go.
This ancient treasure is ready to move into it’s second life is now for sale.
This prized board is very large piece of an Ancient Kauri tree and has been carbon dated to be more than 50,000 years old. It is also the largest board available in the whole world today.
It weighs in at approximately 3,000 pounds is fully seven feet wide, and a hefty five inches thick. It is now stable and ready to become a world-class finished piece.
What’s the back-story on Ancient Kauri wood?
Our board is part of a huge Ancient Kauri tree that has recently been carefully pulled into the sunlight. This tree was alive and growing as our planet was forming and continents were still moving into place.
For more than 2,000 years our tree was strong and alive. It has been pushed by ancient winds and has felt the rains, fires, storms, and the heat of a sun from a world we can only speculate about.
Thousands of prehistoric animals, birds, bugs and other plants lived and died in this tree. No one knows what strange creatures stopped by to enjoy the shade or enjoyed a good side-rub on this huge tree.
Because extinction is normal, few species alive 50,000 years exist today. There were even some humans, a curious and primitive little species, that were just starting to drift into New Zealand.
What’s the story behind this particular board?
In 2010 our tree was discovered and carefully excavated from the soil of northern New Zealand. The excavator, Percy __ , made sure the soil was fully remediated and the land looked as it was before excavation. Unfortunately Percy died in 2012 and his unique equipment has been dismantled.
At 15 feet in diameter our tree was a very exciting find. It is believed to have been over 200 feet tall. Using heavy equipment and specially designed saws, six of the biggest pieces of wood in the world were cut from this tree. Hundreds of treasured projects have been spawned from this single tree.
Five of these huge boards have been crafted into magnificent tables around the world:
Boards One and Two are in a very busy book store in South Korea.
Board Three resides in a private residence in Germany.
Board Four is part of a private ranch in Colorado.
Board Five graces a boardroom in Florida.
Board Six is the last of these massive boards available.
The day our board was delivered was full of anticipation. After a lot of careful lifting, pulling and pushing our board was finally set into it’s specially designed trolley-system and rolled to it’s place in our workshop. The shop went quiet as we all stared at our board. We all stood back to give it a careful look, to take in, to realize, just what we were looking at. None of us had ever been in the presence of anything so old, huge and so wonderful. It was a quiet and pleasantly surprising few moments.
Over the years we have always been proud to show our board to visitors. Most simply want to see it. There is a quiet thrill to be in the presence of such a fantastic specimen.
Some people want to touch it for real. Some mentioned a quiet thrill as they move their fingers over the surface. A subtle feeling of connection happens as they touched it with their hands. There was a quiet sense of confidence and solice, and odd strangely old vibration that’s reassuring and says everything is going to be ok.
Our board was delivered ‘wet’ to us from New Zealand 2010. It has been naturally drying for all these years and is now a stable board and ready for finishing.
This is a real piece of our natural history and is poised to become a world class table anyone will be proud to show off.
What will become of this magnificent board?
This board gets attention where ever it goes. First because if it’s size, then a deeper interest and appreciation as people hear its story. It invites curious touches and ignites the imagination.
In any room this table will be the center piece. Whether in a private home, restaurant, library, vineyard or public place. It invites curious touches and stirs the imagination. In the board room it makes a strong statement of power and stability.
It might become a beautiful backdrop or space divider for a magnificent room. It can have lots of light and air flowing all around it. Imagine walking into a new building and seeing this for the first time.
