Ancient Kauri Bowl – 028

Nice shimmer, burl and curl in this piece.

An area of bark inclusion (from near the surface of the log), some of the bark is gone, exposing the wonderful texture in the grain of the cambium layer, just underneath where the bark was when this was a living tree.

Extra interest in this action-packed small bowl, where there is an area with 50,000-year-old Ancient Kauri Gum in it!

It is very rare to get this far away from the time the tree-trunks were dug out of the ground to have some remnants of Kauri Gum remaining in the edge of a bowl!

This bowl is 2 1/2 inches high and 6 inches is the largest diameter.

From the 2021 Collection, one of 350 bowls.

When this bowl is sold, it will never be replaced.

If you are interested in wood-turning, this piece has sturdy thick walls and very consistent grain – perfect for re-chucking into the lathe!
